12 Women Abducted by Suspected Boko Haram Fighters in Borno Community

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted 12 women in the Mussa district of Askira-Uba Local Government Area, Borno State.

The victims were said to have been taken while returning from their farms around 5pm on Saturday.

Confirming the incident in a telephone interview, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said the command has begun investigating the case.

“There was an abduction yesterday in Askira-Uba. Twelve females were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists when they were coming back from the farm,” he said.

He urged residents to remain calm, assuring that security agencies are already working on the matter.

“The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that efforts are underway. When we conclude our findings, it will be made public,” he added.

Residents in the area expressed deep worry over the incident and called on authorities to act swiftly to secure the victims’ release.

A resident, who asked not to be named, said the community became alarmed around 5pm when the women did not return home.

“We immediately informed our elected representatives, traditional leaders, and security agencies,” he said.

The attack comes amid rising cases of abductions across the country, with states such as Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger still battling with the kidnapping of schoolchildren by armed groups.
