Thirteen Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana have been rescued and safely returned to Nigeria, bringing the total number of rescued victims from Ghana to 163 in the past five months, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
The young women, aged between 19 and 30, hail from Ebonyi, Benue, Kaduna, and Rivers States. They were lured to Ghana under false promises of employment but were subjected to exploitation and sworn to oaths of secrecy by their traffickers.
The rescue operation, a collaboration involving Ghana's Anti-Human Trafficking Police, Rescue Live Foundation International, NIDO Ghana, and NIDCOM, ensured the girls' safe return. NIDCOM representative, Mr. Akinboye Akinsola, facilitated their journey back to Nigeria, where they were handed over to NAPTIP for rehabilitation and reintegration.
NIDCOM Chairperson, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised the support of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and other stakeholders for their role in the operation. She reaffirmed NIDCOM's commitment to combating human trafficking under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
The victims are now undergoing rehabilitation, with stakeholders pledging sustained efforts to reintegrate them into society and bring the traffickers to justice.
