18 Passengers Kidnapped in Ekiti as Bandits Ambush Bus

Ekiti

Suspected kidnappers on Sunday night abducted all passengers aboard an 18-seater bus traveling to Ado-Ekiti from Onitsha. The incident occurred near Emure-Owo, with the bandits reportedly demanding a ransom of N30 million per victim.

A source from the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ado-Ekiti branch, disclosed that the bus driver, Sunday Emmanuel, was among those taken. The bandits abandoned several children on the bus, whose cries attracted passersby early Monday morning.

Two passengers managed to escape during the night as the kidnappers dragged the others into the bush. Police recovered the bus shortly after receiving reports from nearby residents who discovered the stranded children.

Efforts are underway by the driver’s union to establish contact with the kidnappers, while authorities continue their investigation. The situation has heightened concerns over security on Ekiti’s highways.
