2027: Wike Says Tinubu’s Supporters in Rivers Don’t Need Governor to Mobilise

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said supporters of President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State do not need the backing of a sitting governor to mobilise for the President’s re-election ahead of the 2027 general election.

Wike made this known on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the commissioning of the headquarters of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors. The facility houses Majority FM 89.5, a situation room, office spaces, and operational buses for mobilisation activities.

Speaking at the event, Wike praised the group’s state coordinator, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, describing his efforts as strong grassroots mobilisation across Rivers communities.

“Desmond Akawor, you have shown enough capacity to mobilise. You have moved to all the nooks and crannies of Rivers to talk about Tinubu for President in 2027,” Wike said.

He reiterated that Rivers State is firmly positioned to support Tinubu, insisting that the state is politically secured for the President.

“I have said before that Rivers State is a no-go area, and I want to say again that this State is totally for Tinubu,” he stated.

Wike added that the commissioning of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ facilities shows a level of organisation rarely seen in the region, stressing that their commitment is not based on mere talk.

“Our commitment is not by mouth, our commitment is not by newspaper. Ours is by showing that yes indeed, we are working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

The former Rivers State governor maintained that the movement does not rely on external influence, noting that elected leaders and party structures within the state are already sufficient to mobilise support.

“We don’t need to have a governor to mobilise for Mr President. We have senators, assembly people, council chairmen, National Assembly members, and party chairmen of APC and PDP,” he said.

Wike also recalled the 2023 election as a major political turning point for Rivers State, saying the decision to support Tinubu was made willingly and without pressure.

“In 2023, we came out without anybody pressuring us… we took a decision, and to the glory of God that decision is what we are enjoying today,” he said.

He urged the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to expand their structure further by inaugurating ward and unit coordinators across the state, stressing that they must take their campaign down to the grassroots.

“We are battle-ready. There is nothing we cannot do because unity is strength,” Wike declared.

Earlier, Akawor thanked Wike for his support and leadership, revealing that coordinators had already been appointed across all 23 local government areas in Rivers State.
