Kano

A horrific motor accident claimed the lives of 23 passengers and injured 48 others on the Kano-Maiduguri road under the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover in Kano. The crash, which occurred on Thursday night, involved a DAF model trailer carrying goods and passengers.

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander Umar Matazu confirmed the accident, attributing it to overspeeding and dangerous driving, which caused the driver to lose control. Matazu reported that 71 passengers were on board, with 23 fatalities and 48 survivors receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital.

In response, the FRSC dispatched an investigation team to probe the incident. Matazu expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged drivers to avoid overloading trailers with passengers and goods, emphasizing the dangers of such practices.

The accident site has been cleared, and normal traffic flow restored, but the tragedy has renewed calls for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations.
