The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that 26 people have tragically died from a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in the local government areas of Aliero, Gwandu, and Jega.
Cerebrospinal meningitis is a severe infection that causes inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. The illness is often caused by either bacterial or viral infections and can spread from person to person.
Symptoms of the disease include fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. If not treated promptly, the infection can lead to serious complications and even death.
The Kebbi State Government has urged residents to seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms and to adhere to health guidelines to prevent further spread of the disease.
