In a historic move for grassroots media development, Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has commissioned Nigeria’s first local government-owned and operated radio stationIshokan 106.7 FM, located in Mushin Local Government Area.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, unveiled the station on Oliyide Street, Mushin, as part of a series of legacy projects executed by the Mushin LG Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye.

In a statement published on the official Facebook page of the Lagos State Government, Sanwo-Olu applauded the innovation, describing it as a "laudable initiative" and encouraging other local governments across Nigeria to emulate the example.

“It’s always good to communicate with our people,” the Governor stated. “This radio station, along with other projects such as centralized federal service centers, roads, and markets, reflects true leadership at the grassroots level.”

Sanwo-Olu praised the APC-led administration for what he called “state-level achievements at the local government level,” urging residents to appreciate the progressive vision of the party. He emphasized that projects of this scale are a testament to the APC’s commitment to development and access to public services.

He further called on citizens to take their civic duties seriously, especially regarding voter registration. “To stand firmly behind the President’s reform agenda, every resident must have a voter’s card. The prosperity of the nation depends on the policies being implemented today,” he said.

The launch of Ishokan 106.7 FM not only makes history but also signals a new chapter in community-based communication, giving Mushin residents a direct channel to local governance, public information, and grassroots empowerment.
