Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed as false and malicious a viral media report alleging he constructed a luxury mansion within two years of his appointment, amid rising electricity tariffs. In a statement by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, Adelabu said the building was completed before he assumed office in September 2023.
He explained that the project began in November 2021 and was finished by August 2023, a month prior to his ministerial appointment, backing his claim with dated photographs, official building approvals, and correspondence. The minister, a long-standing investor in real estate, agriculture, and hospitality, said he only moved into the property this year due to work schedules and that the attention came after a viral video of him hosting Fuji star Wasiu Alabi Pasuma during the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election campaign flag-off.
Adelabu noted he had lived at the same location since 2010, when he built the original structure as a senior banking and finance executive, and the current mansion is a redevelopment carried out 12 years later to meet the demands of political life. Describing the report as an attempt to tarnish his image and undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration, he called on the media outlet to retract the story immediately or face possible legal action.
