West Ham United have reportedly turned down the chance to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan, despite their ongoing struggles between the sticks.
The Hammers were offered the 29-year-old Cameroon international, who has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under new boss Ruben Amorim. Onana lost his starting place to Altay Bayindir this season and has struggled to win it back.
The ex-Inter Milan shot-stopper briefly returned to action in midweek during United’s shock Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town. However, his night ended in more frustration, as he was partly at fault for the Mariners’ second goal before United were dumped out 12-11 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Despite their goalkeeping crisis, West Ham do not see Onana as an upgrade. Summer recruit Mads Hermansen, signed from Leicester City, has looked shaky conceding eight goals in just two league appearances, including three from set pieces against Chelsea. Backup option Alphonse Areola has also failed to impress, with costly errors in the Hammers’ 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Wolves.

Instead, the club is actively pursuing alternatives. Negotiations are ongoing with Hull City goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, while talks have also been revived with Botafogo’s John Victor, with whom West Ham reportedly agreed terms during the summer.
Manager Graham Potter is under growing pressure to resolve the situation quickly, as defensive lapses continue to undermine the team’s progress this season.
