Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised 11 terrorists, arrested 64 suspects, rescued several kidnap victims, and recovered weapons, ammunition, and stolen livestock in a series of coordinated operations across the country between Thursday and Friday.
A credible source at Army Headquarters in Abuja told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the troops foiled planned ISWAP/JAS attacks in the North-East theatre.
According to the source, troops of 222 Battalion repelled threats around Alau Dam, seizing weapons and ammunition, while 145 Battalion ambushed terrorists in Kareto, Mobbar Local Government Area, killing eight and recovering eight AK-47 rifles and ammunition.
Troops of 192 Battalion also intercepted terrorists’ logistics in Gwoza Local Government Area, while 144 Battalion arrested three suspected suppliers in Adamawa with smuggled items.
In the North-West, the source said, troops of 17 Brigade killed two terrorists at Malali Bridge, Katsina, recovering a motorcycle, radios, and phones, while 1 Brigade neutralised another in Shinkafi, Zamfara, seizing an AK-47 rifle, livestock, and other items. Rescue operations also freed kidnap victims in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina States.
In the North-Central, troops of 126 Battalion rescued three kidnapped persons in Kogi during joint air and ground offensives in Lokoja. In Plateau, troops arrested a notorious informant, Abdurahman Bega, linked to a wanted terrorist leader, and separately apprehended an armed militia member with an AK-47 rifle.
Similarly, in Kwara State, troops on patrol seized a rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle from insurgents. In Kaduna, 27 suspects were arrested in Sabon Tasha, Kakuri, and surrounding areas, with illicit drugs and weapons recovered.
In Abuja, Guards Brigade troops arrested 16 illegal miners, including a Nigerien national and a fake NSCDC operative, recovering motorcycles, generators, narcotics, and mining equipment.
The source said the operations reflect the Army’s determination to dismantle terrorist networks and safeguard citizens.
