The Anambra State Police Command has repelled armed robbery attempts in Oba and Awka, recovering two vehicles earlier snatched by criminal gangs.
Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the successes were achieved through swift response measures under the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, on Thursday night recovered a Lexus ES 350 with registration number Lagos BDG 350 JR along Parkers Road. The car had been stolen after four armed men, operating in an unregistered tricycle, blocked the victim on Ifite Road, Amaenyi, and forced him to abandon the vehicle.
In a similar development, police officers attached to Oba Division recovered a black Lexus RX 300 Jeep with registration number Anambra AWK 31 DU in the early hours of Friday. The vehicle was found abandoned near the Mummy Hotel axis along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway.
Ikenga added that both vehicles have been secured at police stations, while efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects.
He commended residents for their cooperation, stressing that community support remains vital in sustaining the command’s fight against crime.
