INEC to Launch Voter Education Roadshow in Bayelsa Sept. 11

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will commence a voter education roadshow in Bayelsa State on September 11, as part of efforts to maximise the impact of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The initiative, spearheaded by INEC’s Voter Education, Publicity and Gender Department, was disclosed by the Head of the Department, Mr. Christian Utong, during a strategic engagement with accredited Voter Education Service Providers in Yenagoa on Saturday.

The meeting brought together civil society groups, advocacy networks, and community partners working to strengthen voter sensitisation for the CVR, which runs from August 2025 to August 2026.

Utong explained that the roadshow will take voter enlightenment directly to towns and rural communities through drama, music, and interactive outreach. He said the initiative will address misinformation, encourage voter status checks, and ensure that all eligible citizens obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“The CVR is strictly for citizens who have not registered before, those who have just turned 18, and individuals with lost, defaced, or damaged PVCs. Multiple registration remains an electoral offence, and with the Automated Biometric Identification System, which uses both fingerprint and facial recognition, such irregularities will be detected automatically,” Utong cautioned.

He further stressed that INEC’s sensitisation efforts go beyond registration numbers, noting that the roadshow will prioritise inclusivity by targeting women, youths, persons with disabilities, and hard-to-reach communities.

“INEC is committed to credible, inclusive, and transparent elections. Democracy thrives when everyone has a voice,” he added.

The roadshow, which will mark the first phase of mass mobilisation, is expected to intensify voter education activities throughout the CVR period. INEC officials will be on ground to provide guidance, assist with voter status verification, and resolve registration-related issues.
