Trailer Crash Causes Heavy Gridlock on Kubwa Expressway

ABUJA — Commuters along the Kubwa Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory were trapped in heavy traffic on Monday morning after a trailer crash blocked a major section of the road.

Confirming the incident, the FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Felix Theman, said the crash, caused by a tyre pull-out, left the trailer sprawled across the expressway, restricting movement.

“There’s currently a gridlock because a section of the expressway has been blocked by the fallen trailer. However, our officers are fully on ground, ensuring that motorists use the available service lane and the few lanes still accessible,” Theman told our correspondent.

He stressed the need for patience and discipline among motorists to prevent further congestion.
“It’s crucial that drivers exercise patience and cooperate with the officers on duty. Indiscipline and impatience could worsen the current traffic situation,” he added.

Theman disclosed that towing services had already been engaged to clear the obstruction.
“We’ve contacted Debasid, the towing company, and their truck is on its way. We expect the trailer to be removed soon so normal traffic can resume,” he said.

The sector commander confirmed that while the accident left the trailer across the road, no lives were lost.
“Yes, it was a crash involving the trailer. One of its tyres came off, and the vehicle overturned. Fortunately, there were no fatalities—only minor injuries,” he explained.

As of press time, the trailer had yet to be removed, and traffic remained slow in both directions of the expressway.
