The Oyo State Government has approved the hosting of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, ahead of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying return-leg match against Rwanda.
The fixture will be played on Saturday, September 27, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Briefing journalists after Tuesday’s State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Works, Abdulmojeed Mogbojubola, said the government approved N110 million to cover logistics, accommodation, feeding, security, and other related expenses.
He explained that hosting the match would attract national attention to Ibadan and reinforce the city’s reputation as a hub for major sporting events.
Mogbojubola added that the gesture was part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s Roadmap for Sustainable Development (2023–2027), which prioritises youth empowerment and sports development.
He urged residents and sports enthusiasts to turn out in large numbers to support the Falconets, expressing confidence that the team would make the country proud.
