Lagos, Sept. 12 — Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci on Friday kicked off her latest record attempt — to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice — at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
The event, tagged the “Gino Jollof Festival,” is organised in partnership with culinary brand Gino and features a custom-made pot measuring six metres in both width and height, designed to hold 250 bags of rice.
Moments before she lit the burners, Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Centre prayed for Baci and blessed the effort.
The festival has drawn massive crowds, including Gen Zs, millennials, celebrities, and food lovers. Over 20,000 people registered to attend, with popular influencers such as Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tomike Adeoye, Folagade Banks, and Veekee James present to lend support.
Baci, who earned global recognition in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, assured the audience that the jollof would be both “amazing and hygienic,” promising a record-breaking culinary experience.
