The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State over the weekend mobilised thousands of members for a sensitisation campaign on the ongoing voter registration exercise and security awareness.
The event, held at the Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin, was attended by National and State Assembly members, senior government officials, party leaders, and traditional rulers.
In a statement issued on Monday, the State APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, described voter registration as the foundation of political participation and crucial to sustaining the party’s dominance in Kwara.
“As APC faithful, your mobilisation for voter registration will amplify the gains of our administration, ensuring our victory in 2027,” Fagbemi said. “Let each member ensure that at least 20 more persons register to vote. That is the way to thank the President and the Governor for their commitment to sustainable development in our state.”
He added that APC’s political strength in Kwara was rooted in the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and President Bola Tinubu in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and the digital economy.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Salihu Danladi, also urged party members to take the exercise seriously, conducting a symbolic “Aye and No” vote to gauge their commitment.
A former INEC official, Muhammed Yusuf, commended the APC’s initiative, noting that it complemented INEC’s efforts. He explained that the exercise was designed for new voters turning 18, those seeking replacement cards, and individuals transferring polling units.
Other speakers, including the Commissioner for Works, Abdulqowiyu Olododo, Niger River Basin Development Authority Chairman, Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa, and SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, highlighted ongoing development projects and called on citizens to support security agencies with credible information.
Adaramaja revealed that as of Friday, 89,056 residents had registered online, while 10,547 had completed physical registration. He urged the remaining 70,000 online registrants to finalise their registration at INEC offices before the December 10 deadline.
The party also stressed that security was a collective responsibility, disclosing plans to recruit 2,600 forest guards to assist security agencies in tackling crime across the state.
INEC had earlier announced that a total of 1,379,342 Nigerians completed online pre-registration in the first week of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which commenced nationwide on August 18, 2025. Kwara State accounted for 33,726 of the registrations.
