Kano — Thousands of sympathisers on Sunday attended the third-day prayer for the late Sarkin Gabas and District Head of Kabo in Kano State, Alhaji Idris Adamu Dankabo.
The prayer, led by Malam Umar Ali alongside other Islamic scholars, was held at the residence of his late father, Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo. Verses from the Holy Qur’an were recited for the repose of the District Head, his late father, and mother.
Among dignitaries who paid condolence visits to the Dankabo family were Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo; former Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke; Special Assistant to the President on Media, Abdul’Aziz Abdul’Aziz; former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; business mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alasan Rurum.
The 48-year-old traditional ruler died on Thursday night in a motor accident in Kano metropolis. His funeral prayer was held on Friday at Kofar Kudu of the Emir’s Palace, led by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, with thousands in attendance.
Late Idris was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, Chairman of the defunct Kabo Air Limited and Jarma of Kano. The Dankabo family is regarded as one of the most influential in Kano, with the late patriarch known for his impact in business, politics, and philanthropy.
Kabo Air, established in 1980, once operated domestic, regional, and international flights before later focusing on charter and Hajj services. At its peak, the airline owned five Boeing 747 jumbo jets, making Dankabo the most successful pioneer private airline operator in Nigeria and sole owner of Africa’s largest fleet of long-range private jetliners.
The Sarkin Gabas title, held by the late Idris Dankabo, is one of the senior positions in the Kano Emirate hierarchy, carrying significant cultural and administrative responsibilities. His untimely death is expected to leave a major gap in the emirate’s traditional leadership structure.
