Nollywood veteran and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has expressed confidence that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will take over power in 2027, replacing the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Okonkwo made the declaration on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.
His remarks follow criticisms of the party after it failed to secure any seat in the August 16 by-elections across 16 constituencies. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched 12 of the 16 available seats in nine states.
When asked if the ADC stood a realistic chance in 2027, Okonkwo maintained:
> “We stand a chance in every election in Nigeria. The true test of ADC will be in 2027. We are going to form the next government in Nigeria and send Tinubu to Bourdillon.”
He acknowledged that the party’s performance in previous contests was affected by primaries conducted before the emergence of the new leadership under David Bach, stressing that the party should be judged on upcoming polls.
On the party’s structure in Rivers State, Okonkwo said the ADC has spread across all 36 states of the federation and confirmed former governor Rotimi Amaechi as the key figure leading its operations in the state.
