The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and dismantled a notorious armed robbery syndicate, leading to the recovery of firearms and stolen vehicles.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Asaba.
According to him, officers received a distress call after gunmen abducted a young man from his residence in Ogwashi-Uku, collected a ransom of ₦2 million, and still shot him in the leg.
“The CP immediately detailed the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad to the scene. The commander, CSP Godwin Osadolor, alongside his operatives, stormed the bush and rescued the victim, who had sustained a gunshot injury,” the statement read.
Through intelligence-led operations, police arrested Chukwuebuka Nka and Uche Okechukwu in Anambra State, where the victim’s white Toyota Venza SUV was also recovered. Their confessions led operatives to Agidiase village, Ogwashi-Uku, where an 18-year-old, Somto Chukwuma, was arrested. Items recovered included a Toyota Matrix (Reg. No. RRT-331-AE) and a network jammer device.
In a separate operation, police also arrested members of a notorious robbery gang in Ekpan. Acting on intelligence, a team led by DPO Ekpan, CSP Labe Joseph, apprehended Elvis Ebroghro (36) and Abiola Adegore (34), who were allegedly caught attempting to steal a vehicle battery.
A community guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, reported that the suspects threatened to kill him if he exposed them. Further investigations led to the arrest of another gang member, Lucky Ebroghro, and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle hidden in an isolated building in Ometan Community.
Edafe assured residents that the command would sustain its crackdown on violent crimes across the state.
