Osun Police Debunk Viral Video of Bandit Attack

Sokoto

The Osun State Police Command has dismissed claims in a viral video suggesting that travellers were attacked by bandits at Omi Funfun, Ora Igbomina, in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Osun State.

In a statement on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, clarified that the alleged attack did not take place in Osun but in Kwara State.

“The Police Command wishes to clarify and inform the general public that the trending video on social media has nothing to do with Osun State. The alleged attack occurred on 18th August, 2025, around Rore/Arandun area, Kwara State,” the statement read in part.

Ojelabi cautioned against misleading reports, stressing that attributing incidents from other states to Osun creates unnecessary fear among residents.

“The Command therefore enjoins the general public to disregard the viral video/information and warns against tagging such video which happened in another state to have happened in Osun State and spreading or peddling of unconfirmed/unverified story/news,” he added.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, also assured residents of strengthened security measures across the state. He said tactical squads and intelligence units had been deployed to border communities to reinforce security and prevent criminal incursions.
