Oyebanji Approves N596.6m Car, Housing Loans for Ekiti School Workers

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the disbursement of ₦596.6 million as car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff in public secondary schools across the state.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, announced this in a statement on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti, describing it as part of government’s efforts to enhance workers’ welfare and morale.

According to him, ₦381.5m will go to 382 beneficiaries as car loans, while ₦215.1m will be disbursed to 425 staff as housing loans.

Boluwade explained that the loans align with the 100 per cent upward review of loan rates earlier approved by the governor, noting that the funds would be released to qualified staff under the commission’s Loans Board.

He commended Governor Oyebanji for injecting additional funds to strengthen the revolving loan scheme and urged beneficiaries to deploy the funds responsibly, reminding them that repayments would be made through salary deductions.

The approval builds on Oyebanji’s earlier interventions to improve workers’ welfare. During the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, the governor highlighted similar initiatives, including the disbursement of ₦400m in housing and vehicle loans to over 1,447 education workers, recruitment of 930 subject teachers for secondary schools, employment of 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers, and approval of career progression for primary school teachers up to Grade Level 16.

Other welfare-focused policies include infrastructure upgrades, capacity development programmes, and the implementation of the new minimum wage.
