The Anambra AnambraState Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Okwuchukwu Ezimuo, for allegedly stabbing his relative to death during a quarrel over family land in Umunocha Village, Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when Ezimuo reportedly struck the deceased, identified as 65-year-old Joseph Dike, on the chest. Dike was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, noting that operatives from the Nnobi Divisional Headquarters visited the crime scene and gathered relevant evidence, including photographs.
Ikenga said the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for further investigation.
“The Commissioner urges residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and avoid resorting to violence,” Ikenga said.
The incident adds to a troubling pattern of violent clashes over land disputes in Anambra. Earlier in February 2025, the police arrested one Christian Ndu in connection with the fatal stabbing of his elder brother during a family quarrel.
