The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old Almajiri teacher, Lawal Nasiru, for allegedly tying and brutally assaulting one of his pupils in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, identified as 11-year-old Sa’id Sani, was reportedly bound with a heavy rope and beaten with a stick and thick cable, leaving him with multiple injuries on his hands and legs.
Police spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday. He said the case was reported on September 22, 2025, at the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters by Idris Mohammed, 50, who brought the injured boy to the station.
“On the 21st of September, 2025, one Lawal Nasiru, aged 28 years, of Unguwar Jarmai, Darazo, criminally tied the victim with a heavy rope and further assaulted him with a stick and thick cable, causing various injuries,” the statement read.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led operatives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. The victim was taken to the General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment.
During interrogation, Nasiru reportedly confessed to the assault, claiming he tied the boy to prevent him from fleeing before his parents arrived. The minor, however, recounted how the suspect mercilessly confined and beat him.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for further investigation. Wakil assured that the suspect would be profiled and charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
