Kebbi Govt Reaffirms Support for Security Agencies in Fight Against Banditry

The Kebbi State Government has restated its commitment to supporting security agencies in the fight against banditry and insurgency across the state.

Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Birnin Kebbi, gave the assurance on Friday while receiving the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Isma’il Gusau, on a courtesy visit in Birnin Kebbi.

He said since assuming office two years ago, Governor Nasir Idris had consistently provided logistics, allowances, and intelligence support to security operatives, stressing that the administration would sustain and expand such interventions.

“The state government will remain steadfast in ensuring our security forces record more victories over criminal elements,” he said.

Yakubu called on the Defence Headquarters to convene a town hall meeting involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to strengthen intelligence-sharing and foster wider community participation in security operations.

Earlier, Gusau explained that his visit was to assess collaboration between the military and the media in strengthening Army–civil relations in Kebbi and the wider North-West. He commended Governor Idris for his unwavering support, which he said had contributed significantly to restoring calm in affected communities.

He also conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, to the Kebbi Government for its sustained commitment to peace and security.

Kebbi, located in Nigeria’s North-West, has in recent years faced worsening insecurity, with banditry, cattle rustling, and insurgency spilling over from neighbouring states, disrupting farming, displacing residents, and straining local economies.
