A tragic incident has shaken the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, where a woman, identified as Mrs. Samson Haruna, allegedly set her husband, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, on fire during a domestic dispute.
Lieutenant Haruna, a Nigerian Army officer and medical doctor attached to the 6 Battalion as a Regimental Medical Officer, sadly died from the severe burns he sustained.
According to reports shared on X by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on Tuesday, the incident occurred on September 22, 2025.
Sources said the couple, who got married in April 2025, had an argument that escalated violently. During the altercation, the wife allegedly poured petrol on her husband and set him ablaze.

“The officer sustained severe burns and was rushed to the Military Reference Section (MRS) within the barracks, where he was initially stabilised before being taken to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further treatment,” a source said.
Despite efforts by medical professionals, Lieutenant Haruna could not survive the injuries.
