The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized over 300,000 pills of Exol-5 during separate operations in Ogun and Kaduna states.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said a 29-year-old suspect was arrested in New Bussa, Niger State, with 150,000 Exol-5 pills, 800 ampoules of pentazocine injection, and 22,000 tramadol capsules.
Similarly, NDLEA operatives in Kaduna arrested another suspect, identified as Farin Malam, 27, at the Abuja–Kaduna toll gate while transporting 150,000 Exol-5 pills from Lagos to Katsina.
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, officers intercepted 27,510 pills of Rohypnol hidden inside sachets of alcoholic drinks destined for South Africa. Two suspects — a freight agent and a cab driver — were first arrested, leading to the capture of the main suspect, a 46-year-old man, during a follow-up operation at Oyingbo Market on October 2.
The same day, NDLEA also arrested an Italy-based businessman at the Lagos airport for attempting to export 3,700 tramadol pills (225mg) and 2,600 tapentadol tablets (200mg) hidden in food items. He reportedly confessed that he was trafficking the drugs for someone else for €945.
In Edo State, a raid in Ugbekpe Ekperi, Etsako Central LGA, led to the recovery of 47kg of skunk (a type of cannabis). Meanwhile, in Osun State, two suspected drug dealers — aged 48 and 52 — were caught with 635kg of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus, while two others were arrested at the same location with 100kg of the substance.
In Rivers State, NDLEA operatives arrested two suspects, aged 20 and 25, after seizing 8.5kg of skunk on October 10. Another 46-year-old man was arrested in Jibia, Katsina State, after 29.5kg of the same drug was found in his home.
Also, in Ondo State, officers recovered 312kg of skunk from a bush at Ologede Camp, Ogbese, while another 141.8kg was seized from two suspects along the Benin–Lagos Expressway.
