EBSU, AE-FUNAI Join ASUU Nationwide Strike
Academic activities have been put on hold at Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, and Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) as both institutions have joined the ongoing nationwide strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Confirming the development, the Chairperson of ASUU, EBSU chapter, Dr. Joseph Igwe, said that all lectures and related academic engagements had been suspended pending further instructions from the union’s national leadership.

A visit to the EBSU CAS campus showed deserted lecture halls, with students who had come for classes left stranded after discovering that no lecturers were available. At the university’s main campus, most classrooms remained locked, forcing many students to return home.
Similarly, the former Secretary of ASUU at AE-FUNAI, Dr. Joseph Chukwu, confirmed that the institution had fully complied with the strike directive.
According to him, no lectures were held as academic staff stayed away from classrooms in solidarity with the national industrial action aimed at pressing home the union’s demands from the Federal Government.
