Katsina Govt Unveils Hybrid Buses to Modernise Transport, Promote Green Mobility
The Katsina State Government has launched a fleet of hybrid-electric buses as part of Governor Dikko Radda’s drive to modernise public transportation and promote environmental sustainability across the state.
Hybrid-electric buses are powered by a combination of an electric motor and a smaller internal combustion engine, designed to reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption.
The initiative comes a year after Governor Radda’s visit to China, where he led a delegation to secure partnerships with leading manufacturers in the transport and agricultural sectors.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony held at the Woerka Nigeria Limited facility in Abuja, the President of Ben 10 Equipment Company and key partner in the project, Oshi Bernard, praised the governor’s commitment to sustainable development and youth empowerment.
“Governor Radda is hard-working, focused, and deeply committed to improving the lives of Katsina people,” Bernard said. “This initiative will transform urban transportation in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua, with plans to expand further across the state.”
Bernard noted that the new hybrid buses—powered by both fuel and electricity—will help reduce pollution, lower transport costs, and improve city mobility for residents.

The Project Manager of Zhong Tong Bus, Wei Yanbin, revealed that the government plans to acquire 30 city buses in the first phase of the project. He added that three bus terminals and 60 bus stops will be constructed along designated routes to support the rollout.
“This project will begin this October and is expected to be completed within six months,” Yanbin stated.
He explained that the hybrid technology allows the buses to switch seamlessly between diesel and electric power, reducing emissions while maintaining efficiency.
Each bus, according to him, can comfortably carry between 45 and 55 passengers, offering a cleaner and more reliable transport option for commuters across Katsina State.
