Troops rescue 23 kidnap victims, nab key terrorists’ collaborators

Troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria have rescued at least 23 kidnapped victims, arrested several key terrorist collaborators, and destroyed illegal oil refineries across the country within the last 24 hours.

 

A reliable source at the Army Headquarters told newsmen that the troops have continued to maintain strong momentum in their ongoing counter-terrorism and internal security operations nationwide.

 

In the North-East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI arrested three Chadian nationals at the Gamboru Motor Park in Ngala, Borno State. The suspects were found with 12 Starlink internet devices and a solar battery, allegedly meant to support Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

 

Also, in Yobe State, soldiers from the 233 Battalion intercepted a tricycle carrying fuel and other supplies intended for insurgents. Meanwhile, troops of the 222 Battalion under the 21 Special Armoured Brigade repelled an ambush in Konduga, killing one terrorist and recovering a dane gun.

 

In the North Central region, troops operating under Operations Mesa and Whirl Stroke recorded significant breakthroughs. Four suspected kidnappers were arrested in Akuna village, Kogi State, while a joint team of troops and other security agencies rescued 23 kidnap victims, including four Chinese nationals, from terrorist enclaves in Chigogo Hills, Kwara State.

 

The troops also foiled a kidnap attempt along the Chikara–Abaji road, rescuing one victim and evacuating two others who sustained injuries. Additionally, two suspected terrorist leaders were arrested in Shendam, Plateau State.

 

In the South-East, soldiers under Operation UDO KA raided a hotel in Ngor Okpala, Imo State, suspected to be a kidnappers’ hideout. During the operation, two men posing as police officers were caught with two AK-47 rifles, 58 rounds of ammunition, and other incriminating items. Four hotel staff were also taken into custody for questioning.

In the Niger Delta, troops of Operation Delta Safe intensified their crackdown on oil thieves. At Ughoton in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, troops uncovered and seized 775 litres of illegally refined diesel hidden in a hotel and arrested the manager. Another 150 litres of kerosene were intercepted from suspected bunkerers in Rivers State, who have since been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

 

The source added that operations are ongoing to dismantle more criminal networks and restore normalcy in affected regions across the country.
