Stray bullet kills tricycle rider outside Lagos brothel

A tricycle rider has been killed by a stray bullet outside a brothel in the Badore area of Ajah, Lagos State, in what residents suspect to be a cult-related shooting.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to eyewitnesses.

Sources said the deceased, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, had gone to the brothel after work to unwind. However, he reportedly stepped out moments later to buy an item from a nearby shop when gunmen arrived and began shooting indiscriminately.

A police source in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim was hit by one of the stray bullets and died instantly.

“We were told the man had just finished work that evening and went to the brothel to relax. He stepped out to buy bottled water because it was cheaper outside. While he was at a nearby shop, some men believed to be cultists drove by and started shooting aimlessly. Unfortunately, one of the bullets hit him, and he died on the spot,” the source said.

A resident, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the shooting was allegedly linked to a cult clash in the area.

“People said the attackers came in a blue Toyota Corolla. They were probably targeting a rival group but ended up killing an innocent man,” the resident said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident.

“The attention of the police was drawn to the scene the following morning. The deceased’s body was recovered and taken to the morgue. His family has been informed, and the remains have been released to them for burial,” Adebisi said.

The killing adds to a growing list of cult-related shootings reported in Lagos and surrounding areas in recent months.

Earlier this month, a fresh graduate of the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, identified simply as Taoreed, was killed by a stray bullet during a clash between rival cult groups.

Residents have since called on security agencies to intensify surveillance and curb the rising wave of cult violence in communities across the state.
