Police bust arms syndicate in Delta, recover ammunition

Police operatives in Delta State have achieved a major success in their fight against crime with the arrest of a suspected arms dealer, his female accomplice, and the recovery of a large cache of ammunition in Warri.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, revealed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the operation was based on credible intelligence provided by the Force Technical Intelligence Unit, Abuja.

According to Edafe, operatives from the Commissioner of Police’s Special Assignment Team, led by Julius Robinson, first arrested a female suspect, Jamila Abubakar, at the Conoil Filling Station along the Warri–Patani Road in Effurun.

“During her arrest, officers found ₦550,000 suspected to be proceeds from illegal arms deals hidden in her bag. Her confession led to further operations that produced major results,” Edafe stated.

Acting on her information, police raided the Niger-Cat area of Warri on October 22, 2025, and arrested Ahmed Ibrahim (31), a well-known arms dealer from Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area.

A search of his residence uncovered 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim is a major weapons supplier to bandit groups in northern Nigeria and has been on the police watchlist for his involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery. He has also been linked to the abduction and murder of Ogheneovo Onemu, who was kidnapped on May 17, 2024, in Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, despite her family paying a ₦4 million ransom.

He urged residents to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious movements through the command’s control room numbers: 08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914.
