Police train officers to handle explosives, nuclear threats

The Nigeria Police Force has trained 325 officers on how to handle explosive devices and respond to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

The officers, drawn from police commands across all 36 states, underwent a four-week intensive training at the Police Mobile Force Training College in Ende Hills, Nassarawa-Eggon, Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police in charge of EOD and CBRN, Hauwa Ibrahim, said the programme was a major step in boosting the Force’s counterterrorism capacity.

She explained that the training covered modern techniques for detecting, identifying, and neutralising explosive and hazardous materials. According to her, it aligns with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s drive to improve the Force’s ability to tackle terrorism and other security threats.

“The trainees have been equipped with up-to-date anti-terrorism skills. They can now safely deactivate explosives and respond effectively to CBRN threats while protecting the public,” she said.
