The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a three-year-old boy who was earlier reported stolen and arrested six members of a child-stealing and trafficking syndicate said to be operating across Anambra, Enugu, and Lagos states.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police launched an investigation after receiving a report of the missing child on September 4, 2025.
Ikenga explained that officers from the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, immediately swung into action, which led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Samuel Ibe.
According to him, Samuel’s confession helped the police track down his mother, 35-year-old Agatha Ejeweh, and his 15-year-old younger brother, Ejeweh Chidera.
The statement said the complainant had left her three-year-old son in Samuel’s care while she went briefly to her shop. On returning, she discovered that both Samuel and the child had disappeared.
Further investigations took the police to Enugu, where they arrested a 30-year-old woman, Angela Eze, for working with another suspect, Juliet Onah, to move the stolen child to Lagos.

Ikenga confirmed that all suspects are in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, restated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that Anambra State will not tolerate any form of criminal activity.
