Operatives of the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate have arrested Fanen Ochough, a former chairmanship aspirant in Gwer West, Benue State, for alleged impersonation and fraud involving over N14 million.
The commission announced the arrest in a statement posted on Instagram on Tuesday.
According to the EFCC, Ochough posed as Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, the Principal Private Secretary to Benue State Governor Hycenth Alia, and used the false identity to deceive several people. Among his alleged victims is a former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Stephen Lawani, who was reportedly defrauded of more than N14 million.

The EFCC said Ochough was picked up in Makurdi on Friday, November 7, 2025, after a petition was filed at the zonal office. The commission added that he allegedly promised his victims government contracts and job placements to convince them to part with their money.
In a separate development, the EFCC recently declared former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, wanted over an alleged case of conspiracy and the dishonest conversion of $14.8 million.
