Super Eagles Resume Training After Resolving Bonus Dispute with NFF

The Super Eagles have resumed training in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup African play-off semi-final against Gabon, following the resolution of their bonus dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Team media officer, Promise Efoghe, confirmed the development on Wednesday, announcing, “Issues resolved. Super Eagles to train at 5 pm.”

The team had boycotted Tuesday’s training session in protest of unpaid match bonuses and allowances, which led to concerns about their readiness for the crucial encounter. Before the dispute, the Eagles had held only one full training session with 14 of the 16 players present in camp.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, the players said, “The full squad, including officials, withheld from training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments. The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparation for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”

Following negotiations between the NFF, the players, and the National Sports Commission, the matter was resolved, allowing the squad to return to training.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, while clarifying the situation, dismissed reports that the federation owed players for 30 matches.

“It’s not true that we have owed for 30 matches,” Gusau explained. “Before these qualifiers started, we reached an agreement with the team leaders, and everything was cleared. Any remaining issue was discussed and settled with the National Sports Commission.”

With tensions now eased, the Super Eagles are set to take on Gabon at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat by 5 pm on Thursday.
