One Dead, Six Injured as Bus Crashes Into Stationary Tipper in Ikorodu

A passenger lost her life early Monday after a commercial bus rammed into a stationary tipper truck along Majidun, inward Ogolonto, on Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the accident involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration EPE 494 XM and a tipper truck parked by the roadside to buy diesel.

According to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the bus—chartered to convey passengers to a programme in Ogijo—suffered sudden brake failure.

“The driver, who was reportedly speeding excessively, lost control and forcefully collided with the tipper truck,” Taofiq said.

The impact was fatal. An adult female passenger died instantly, while six others—five women and one man—sustained serious injuries.

All injured victims were rushed to Benic Special Hospital, while the deceased was taken to the General Hospital in Ikorodu.

LASTMA also revealed that the tipper driver attempted to flee but was chased down and arrested. The bus driver was also taken into custody, and both have been handed over to the Ipakodo Police Division for further investigation.
