Fresh Tension as PDP Faction Expels Three Governors and Top Party Leaders

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party deepened on Tuesday after the factional National Executive Committee aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, approved the expulsion of three serving governors — Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.

Also expelled were former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former National Vice Chairman, Bode George; and the party’s recently elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN.

This escalation comes just days after the controversial PDP national convention in Ibadan, where Wike and his supporters were themselves expelled, sparking renewed hostility between the two sides.

The tension culminated on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, where both factions arrived to hold parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings, leading to heated exchanges and chaos around the premises.

At its meeting in Abuja, the Wike-aligned NEC also dissolved the party’s state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti States. The committee ordered the formation of caretaker leadership and the conduct of fresh congresses in the affected states.
