NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Taking the Law Into Their Own Hands

The National Youth Service Corps has cautioned corps members across the country to avoid taking the law into their own hands during and after their service year.

The NYSC Bauchi State Coordinator, Umoren Kufre, gave the warning on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members held at the permanent orientation camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

Kufre urged the new corps members to strictly follow all NYSC rules and use official channels to report any issues instead of resorting to self-help.

He said, “I urge you to obey all the rules and regulations governing the NYSC. If you notice any irregularity, do not take the law into your hands. Always follow the proper communication channels to express your grievances.

“Let me assure you that management will provide all the basic amenities you need in camp. Your safety and comfort remain our utmost priority.”

He revealed that 2,050 corps members had been deployed to Bauchi State and noted that the orientation course had been peaceful, with active participation in all camp activities.

Kufre also thanked Governor Bala Mohammed for his continued support, including renovating corps hostels and constructing a new multipurpose hall. He appealed to the governor to help rebuild a portion of the camp’s perimeter fence that collapsed about a year ago.

Declaring the camp open, Governor Mohammed — represented by the State Head of Service, Mohammed Umar — urged corps members to champion national development and take their responsibilities seriously to support NYSC’s mission of unity and integration.

During the oath of allegiance, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Rabi Umar, represented by Abdullahi Yau of the High Court, advised corps members to maintain law and order throughout the orientation period.
