The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that schools nationwide will shut down on November 24, 2025, describing the information as completely false.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry said the viral message circulating on social media did not originate from the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, any state ministry, or any recognised security agency.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, urged the public to disregard the rumour and rely only on official communication channels.
“Any announcement or advisory from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored,” the statement said. “We appeal to the public to always verify information before circulating it, in order to curb the spread of misinformation.”

The ministry emphasised that only information released by the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments, or recognised security bodies should be taken as authentic.
This clarification comes a day after the Federal Government ordered the closure of 41 federal secondary schools located in high-risk areas, following recent mass abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.
Several states—such as Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger—have already taken independent measures to shut down schools due to escalating insecurity. Taraba State has also instructed all public and private schools to immediately deboard students as a safety precaution.
