The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed widespread social media claims that bandits attacked the Zango, Crusher, and Felele communities in Lokoja.
In a statement released on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, William Aya, described the reports as fake news intended to cause unnecessary fear within the state.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has cautioned individuals spreading false alarms to stop immediately, warning that anyone caught disseminating such misinformation will be arrested and prosecuted.

He assured residents that security agencies—including the Police Mobile Force and Counter-Terrorism Units—have been deployed to strategic areas to maintain safety and peace.
Residents were encouraged to continue their daily activities normally and to report any suspicious behaviour to security authorities. Aya emphasized that keeping the state safe is a shared responsibility and urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperative.
The command also noted that similar rumours of impending bandit attacks have been trending across social media, but none have been verified.
Earlier on Monday, the police had also refuted claims of alleged movement of bandits in the eastern part of the state targeting schools and worship centres, stressing that the reports lacked credibility.
