Jigawa Police Arrest Suspected Cross-Border Cattle Rustler, Nab Vandal in Separate Operation

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old suspect from Niger Republic for attempting to move eight stolen cows across the border in what authorities believe is a rustling operation.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, officers from the Maigatari Division intercepted the suspect, Muhammad Abdullahi of Maidaga village, Dungas District, at about 10:30 a.m. on November 29, 2025. He was arrested at Matoya village in Maigatari Local Government Area while trying to transport the livestock, which community members identified as stolen.

Adam said the arrest was made possible through timely information from local residents. He confirmed that the cows have been recovered and are currently in police custody awaiting identification and return to their rightful owners.

He praised the synergy between the community and the police, stating that their cooperation played a key role in disrupting the rustling attempt.

In a separate development on the same day, at around 12:30 p.m., officers from Taura Division arrested 27-year-old Adamu Yahaya of Kwalam town for vandalism. Yahaya was captured at a hideout after intelligence reports linked him to the theft of electric wires removed from government power installations, an act that disrupted electricity supply in the area.

Police recovered three sacks of stolen electric cables, and investigations are ongoing to identify Yahaya’s accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police commended the swift actions of the officers involved and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their ongoing support.

Reiterating the command’s dedication, SP Adam assured residents that the Jigawa Police remain committed to combating all forms of criminal activity and maintaining continuous security statewide.
