President Bola Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s top security chiefs and heads of major security agencies at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The service chiefs arrived at the Villa around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, just a few hours after Tinubu nominated former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), as the new Minister of Defence. Musa’s nomination followed the resignation of the former Defence Minister, Abubakar Badaru, on Monday night.
The meeting is being led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede. Other key officials in attendance include:
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General W. Shaibu
Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke
Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas
Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. General Akomaye Undiandeye
Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Ajayi
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun

The gathering comes shortly after Tinubu’s recent declaration of a nationwide security emergency, following an increase in kidnappings and security breaches. The president announced measures such as recruiting 20,000 more police officers, deploying forest guards, and strengthening security in vulnerable schools, churches, and mosques.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti was also seen arriving at the Villa, carrying a file, though it is unclear whether he is part of the security meeting or attending a separate engagement.
The meeting is ongoing as efforts intensify to address Nigeria’s rising security challenges.
