The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Youth Province 1, in collaboration with several other youth provinces in Lagos, has spent about N40 million on its annual free bus-to-work initiative, aimed at easing the transportation burden on residents.

The initiative, which ran from November 24 to December 5, offered free morning and evening transportation across major routes in Lagos. This year’s routes included:

Festac to CMS

Oworonshoki to CMS

Redemption City to 7UP

Redemption City to Sagamu

Redemption City to Victoria Island

Redemption City to Agege

Ikorodu to Maryland

Commuters also enjoyed free return trips in the evenings.

According to RCCG Youth Province 1, the programme—now in its second year—was launched to cushion the rising cost of living, especially transportation, which has become a daily struggle for many Nigerians. About 10 large yellow buses were deployed, carrying hundreds of passengers every day.

Pastor Oluwagbemileke Adeboye, Pastor-in-Charge of Youth Province 1, said the project was a way to support residents during tough economic times.

“We saw how much relief it brought last year, so we decided to continue and even expand it this year. It’s open to everyone—no restrictions on tribe or religion,” he said.

He also noted that the bus rides often include prayers and short messages to help commuters start or end their day with hope and encouragement.

The initiative was carried out in partnership with RCCG Youth Provinces 2, 7, 14, 18, and 20. Pastor Martins Olusakin and Pastor Abiodun Famojuro also played key roles in coordinating and managing the project.

Many commuters expressed their gratitude, with some taking to social media to commend the church for the timely intervention.

The Youth Province 1 leadership added that preparations are underway for the upcoming RCCG Holy Ghost Congress in the second week of December.

Earlier in September 2024, the province also launched a similar free bus service across Lagos and Ogun States to support commuters affected by rising inflation.
