Minna

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrival of operatives from the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, who were deployed to enforce the nationwide directive withdrawing police officers from VIP escort and guard duties.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, announced this in a statement on Monday, reaffirming the command’s support for the IGP’s reform agenda aimed at improving professionalism, discipline, and better deployment of police personnel across the country.

According to him, removing police officers from VIP escort roles will strengthen public policing, improve response times, and ensure more officers are available for core security duties throughout the state.

Part of the statement reads:
“The Anambra State Police Command today, December 8, 2025, officially received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit deployed to enforce the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
We remain committed to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts toward enhancing professionalism, discipline, and effective deployment of police manpower nationwide.”

The command assured the monitoring operatives of full cooperation during the exercise. All Area Commanders, DPOs, and heads of tactical units have also been instructed to support the enforcement team to ensure a smooth and transparent process.

The police further urged all affected VIPs, organisations, and individuals to comply fully, stressing that the exercise is part of broader efforts to reform policing and strengthen national security.

Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force announced that a Special Enforcement Team had begun monitoring compliance in Lagos, covering strategic areas such as the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The monitoring so far has shown commendable levels of adherence to the presidential directive.
