El-Rufai Denies 2027 Presidency Claim, Calls It Fake News

El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has debunked a viral social media report claiming he stated that the South should produce Nigeria’s president in 2027.

The reports also alleged that El-Rufai was backing Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, instead of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He described all the claims as false.

In a statement shared on Monday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, El-Rufai said he never made such remarks in any speech, interview, or on his verified social media platforms.

According to him, it is wrong to attribute opinions or articles written by others to him, even if he shares them as part of public discourse. He stressed that only views directly expressed by him should be linked to his name.

El-Rufai warned that the spread of fake news and irresponsible politicking poses a serious danger to society, especially when media professionals fail to verify information before publishing or sharing it.

He urged journalists, editors, and the public to always fact-check information and act responsibly, adding that society suffers when falsehood is allowed to thrive.

He concluded by reaffirming that no opinion should be credited to him unless it comes directly from his official platforms or reputable media interviews.
