Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have killed at least 21 Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters during an ambush on a logistics convoy in Borno State.

The operation took place in the Sojiri and Kayamla communities after intelligence reports revealed that over 100 terrorists had gathered in the area to move supplies and launch coordinated attacks on nearby towns.

In a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s official X handle on Sunday, the Army said troops, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes, moved swiftly to intercept the insurgents.

Contact was made around noon, leading to a fierce gun battle. During the encounter, the terrorists attempted to flank the troops from the rear, but the move was foiled as the soldiers responded with superior firepower and maintained control of the fight.

Following the engagement, troops advanced deeper into the forest, where they confirmed the neutralisation of 21 terrorists. Several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

The Army said follow-up operations are still ongoing to assess additional casualties and recover more equipment.

Items recovered from the scene included bicycles, food supplies, drugs and medical items, detergents, clothing, bicycle tyres, torchlights, as well as assorted weapons and ammunition.

According to the Army, troop morale remains high and operational effectiveness strong, noting that the success of the operation highlights the impact of intelligence-driven, joint security efforts in disrupting terrorist logistics and weakening their operational capacity.

In a related development, troops of Operation Hadin Kai recently uncovered an improvised explosive device along the Damboa–Komala road and arrested two suspected logistics suppliers to Boko Haram in the Kirawa area of Gwoza Local Government Area.

The Army said the latest successes were recorded during separate operations carried out between December 17 and 19, as efforts continue to degrade terrorist networks across the North-East.
