Abbas Condemns Maiduguri Mosque Attack, Calls for Unity and Peace

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, has strongly condemned the deadly attack on a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing it as a barbaric act and a painful blow to the nation’s conscience.

The attack, which occurred during prayers on Wednesday, claimed the lives of several worshippers and left many others injured.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas described the incident as “the height of wickedness” and an assault on the very soul of Nigeria.

He expressed sympathy with the families of the victims, the government and people of Borno State, and Nigerians at large, while offering prayers for the repose of the deceased and speedy recovery for those injured.

The Speaker also praised security agencies for their continued sacrifices in protecting lives and property, expressing confidence that sustained efforts by the Federal Government would further improve the security situation across the country.

Abbas stressed that the perpetrators of the attack would not achieve their goal of dividing the nation or undermining its progress toward peace and prosperity.

“Peace and unity remain the foundation of our collective progress. We must strengthen interfaith harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or creed,” he said.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Federal Government to tackling insecurity, Abbas said the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains resolute under the Renewed Hope Agenda, employing strategies such as increased military funding, intelligence-led operations, and community-based security initiatives to safeguard lives and property.
