The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has begun rehabilitation work on the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Highway to improve safety and ease movement, especially during the festive season.
The Officer-in-Charge of FERMA’s Kwara State Field Office, Lukman Onimago, disclosed this while inspecting the ongoing work on the federal road on Tuesday. He urged motorists to drive carefully and help preserve public infrastructure, noting that road safety is a collective responsibility.
According to him, the repairs are part of FERMA’s annual intervention programme known as Operation Connect Your Destination, which is carried out nationwide during the yuletide period to ensure smoother and safer travel for road users.
Onimago explained that the programme supports the Federal Government’s agenda of improving road safety and ensuring that major highways remain motorable across the country.

He added that the current work involves patching potholes and fixing critical failed sections of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road to reduce accidents and traffic disruptions.
“The goal is to ensure that road users get to their destinations safely and on time, while also reducing the risk of road crashes,” he said.
The rehabilitation project, being handled by FERMA’s Kwara State Office, is expected to significantly improve driving conditions on the busy highway, which serves as a major link between Kwara and Oyo states.
Residents and motorists using the route have welcomed the intervention and called on the Federal Government to sustain regular maintenance of major highways nationwide.
