2025 Tested Our Strength, Niger Stood Firm — Gov Bago

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has said the year 2025 was a period that tested the strength and resilience of both his administration and the people of the state, particularly in the face of social pressures and security challenges.

The governor made this known in a statement released on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Information, Obed Nana, as he reflected on the outgoing year and welcomed residents into 2026.

According to Bago, despite the difficulties experienced, Niger State remained standing through unity, patience and the people’s trust in government.

He thanked residents for their support at critical moments, noting that their cooperation played a key role in helping the state weather tough times.

“On behalf of the Government of Niger State, I extend warm greetings to all Nigerlites and Nigerians as we successfully conclude 2025 and usher in the New Year 2026 with renewed hope,” the governor said.

“The year tested our resilience, especially during moments of security challenges and social pressures. Yet, through unity, patience and unwavering faith in government, Niger State stood firm.”

The governor called on residents to continue supporting his administration as it intensifies efforts to implement the New Niger Agenda, which he described as a roadmap focused on good governance, security, economic revitalisation, infrastructure development and inclusive growth.

As the state moves into the new year, Bago stressed that government alone cannot deliver sustainable development without the active participation of citizens.

“Building a prosperous Niger State requires the collective commitment of citizens, community leaders, the media, civil society and all stakeholders,” he said, urging residents to remain law-abiding, united and vigilant.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparent communication, responsive leadership and people-centred policies.

“Governor Bago’s government remains committed to policies that prioritise the welfare of citizens and ensure openness in governance. Together, we can build a peaceful, prosperous and progressive Niger State,” the statement added.

Niger State faced several security challenges in 2025, including deadly tanker explosions, boat accidents and incidents of terrorist abductions.

One of the most disturbing incidents occurred in November 2025, when terrorists abducted 315 pupils, students and teachers from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area. The victims were later released after one month following the intervention of the Federal Government.

The governor expressed optimism that 2026 would bring renewed peace, greater opportunities and shared prosperity to Niger State and the country at large.
