Immigration Arrests Suspected Trafficker, Rescues Six Women at Seme Border

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued six young Nigerian women along the Seme–Badagry border axis in Lagos State.

The interception was carried out by officers of the Lagos State Border Patrol Command in Seme, working alongside other security agencies.

According to the NIS, the operation took place on Wednesday, February 4, and led to the arrest of a 24-year-old woman identified as Miss Victor Jennifer, said to be from Benue State.

She was reportedly caught while attempting to traffic six women between the ages of 20 and 23, none of whom had valid travel documents.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Immigration Service said the suspect and the victims were first taken to the NIS Zonal Office, Zone A Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, for preliminary investigation before being transferred to the NIS Headquarters in Abuja on February 6 for further action.

The Service described the arrest as part of its ongoing effort to tackle irregular migration and transnational crime, noting that the Seme border corridor has remained a major trafficking route.

Speaking on the incident, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Immigration and Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, ACG Mohammed Adamu, reaffirmed the agency’s strong stance against human trafficking.

The NIS also credited the success of the operation to effective collaboration with other security agencies and stressed that interagency cooperation remains key to combating trafficking.

The Service noted that the action aligns with its ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening border management, improving intelligence-led operations, and enhancing national security under the leadership of the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.
